IBB are you asking for the drivation of the word or its meaning? Well, let me try my hand on it:

The adjective Jan-wuya has no relation with the direct combination of the words red & neck. It means something wholly negetive to this. It refers to kind of man/woman that is rascal, miscrent, adamant, or thug and other words related to these mentioned bafore.

Hope I am correct. Any marks for me?

HUSNAA

Well dont you know if you are correct Muhsin? You should be very sure of something before writing it. I actually believed in what u  wrote until u added that self doubt. In point of fact if we are to look at the word janwuya, its  literal English translation is redneck. That is why I was impressed with what you'd written. I still think you are right, but cut out the self doubt. It makes ppl less sure of u also.

Thanx to you two. Husnaa you mentioned in 'literal English translation Jan-wuya is Redneck'. I thot Jan-wuya means some1 thats rascal or thug like Muhsin mentioned above. If its not wat does Jan-wuya mean.

IHS

Mufi

Redneck, in modern usage, predominantly refers to a particular stereotype of people who may be found in many regions of the United States or Canada. Originally limited to the Appalachians and the American South, and later the Ozarks and Rocky Mountains, this stereotype is now widespread in other states and the Canadian provinces. The word can be used either as a pejorative (often as a racist epithet) or as a matter of pride. ;D ;D ;D

Dan-Borno

yes, Muhsin you've tried, however, let also chip in something
which in recent time have assumed the position of the word
janwuya or redneck in most of the states in Nigeria.

ko kun san mutanen Civil Defence Corps? that new corps
empowered by the then President of Nigeria, they are called
"Jan wuya" or "Red Neck", because the colour of their collar
is red, just an averaged man way of differentiation between
police and them.

Muhsins definitions still remains accepted and you score 75/100

"Jan wuya" may also mean the Don, the big boss or oga kwakwata.
It is related to the 'redneck' of the military. They only put on the red neck
from the rank of a colonel and above. Ko?

Hello,

Thanks to you all. And to Husnaa, what you said is a fact. Yet I must express my doubt knowing members like you are around. Though I know what I'd written is the metaphorical meaning of the word jan-wuya.

Any way, I won't do it again.
