Hello forumites, its been so long we have been avoiding
the general board while enjoying the riddles and jokes of
the chit-chat, good to know that.  While we engage in
jokes, its good we also remember our reality situation.

TOday, I opt to speak out on the attitudes of our
naija doctors who from all indication have lost the
respect and confidence of the common man just like the
politicians.

Two happenings ignited me to descend on them today, the
first one was an incidence that happened here in Maiduguri
which no any newspaper wanted to report, i dont know
whether they are not aware or the hospital management has
been able to buy the story from the journalist.  Which ever
way, that is naija for all of us.

The guy was brought to Maiduguri Teaching Hospital with a
gun shot on his legs and have stayed for two days waiting
for an operation to take place.  The usual long delays in
unnecessary medical tests and in most cases, the results
were either misplaced or carelessly changed with a patient
of HIV (May Allah protect us from the Sharri of Doctors).

The health condition of this guy is very appreciative before
he was taken into the thearter room, he made his last call
to a very dear friend while on a stretcher that here I am
going to the theater room before he switched off his mobile
phone as instructed by the doctors or doctors.

While his immediate family were anxiously waiting at the
ward for his return from the thearter room, the doctors or
doctors where carelessly giving no regard to the human body
by inviting students to practice the operation on the man.

Before you knew it, the guy never work up from that moment
and the doctors never said anything to that effect.

While as Muslims, we are enjoined to forward whatever
situation befalls us to Allah, a duty of care between Doctors
and Patient is one that requires strict adherence to.  We must
also accept our faults, for Allah has given us a freewill.

To cut the story short, sun kashe banza kamar yadda police
zai dauki bindiga ya harbe mutum kuma babu abinda gwamnati
zatayi akai.  This is the type of doctors (not doctors) we have
in Naija.

The second situation was last two years, when my neighbours
child was sick very late night.  I took the pain to volunteer in
conveying them to hospital around that 12:45 midnight.
Wallahi tallahi yaronnan yana kuka har zuwa karfe 2:00 na dare
while the doctors where there looking at us, infact one of
them was reading a novel.  They appear more of doctors and
not doctors.

At last, they lackadaisically held the little child up bayan har
ya hakura da kuka and ask us to come back as early as 7:00am.
Ni kam, I couldnt utter a word, because it could lead to an
uncontrolled chaos in the hospital and the securities will not
take it lightly on me.  So, i took my pain that way.

This is the types of doctors (not doctors) we have in Naija, they
come into the profession in order to make fortune and no any other
thing.  They have forgotten about their ethics as imbibed by
their profession.

The medical college of our universities no more graduate doctors
but doctors, doctors who pretend to be doctors whille doctoring
evil to the people.

The Longmann dictionary defines the word doctor in two ways:-

1.   Doctor - Someone who is trained to treat people who are
                  ill.
Someone who holds the highest level of degree
                  given by a university

2.   Doctor -  To dishonestly change something in order to
                  make it seem better.
To add a substance, especially a drug or poison
                  to food or drink

The second definition is the one i referred to naija's doctors.

Hakane, another one was aired on same station, saying he is patriot, while leaving in Germany for 30yrs. the reason he gave for been patriot was that when he went to Germany he was offered a choice of whether to be a German citizen or Nija one, " I choose to be Nigerian" he insisted. Useless reason instead of him to say....

DB,
What a nice thread. What is more fascinating is your observation of the meaning, different meanings of the word DOCTOR. Keep it up!

Actually, what's going on in Nigerian hospitals is really a disgruntle thing. People are just sent, unprepared, to the world beyond without anyone to rise an eye-brow. This make it, at times, very hard for a doctor trained in Nigeria to work properly abroad without being, maybe from the day he starts, sue to court on allege of killing his patient. I heard lots of such cases. Allah ya kyauta.

Though a bit off-topic Mal. Anas, but this remaind me of one thread I've been trying to post about patrioticism and insha Allah am gonna do that soon.

Including the nurses too...
Naija hospitals ai sai Allah ya gyara kawai.

This goes to show you how bad the system is, Allah ya taimaka dai.

There is one hospital in kaduna that i know, they already have a name for it Asibitin mutuwa, cos anybody that goes in there sai in kwanan shi na gaba. ;D ;D
Life is like a flower; more exquisite and precious when shared with others.

Dan-Borno

Fadi kanki tsaye Mumcee, you can even go ahead and name
the hospital, because we are sensitizing ourselves on how
dangerous these people can be.

Myself, you just remind me that I didnt say anything about
these nurses, especially the ones with the department of
midwifery.  Times without number women have been complaining
of absolute neglect during birth.  Wallahi tallahi i have witnessed
one at the Maiduguri Nursing Home (Husnaa kin tuno asibitin ko?)
it was good before, amma yanzu, its a death trap, women no
longer go there to deliver, because they will just leave the
woman shouting for help, that how they killed my friends first
daughter due to negligence.

While it is good we pray, it also requires sacrifice and preaching
for the immediate reformation of the entire system by writing
our grievances in form of petition to the heads of medicals and
the Minister of Health, by so doing, we shout.

Anas, it is everywhere a kasannan
non of the hospitals is working perfectly as
and government's attention is somewhere
else.  Those Doctors in the Govt hospitals
still owns the private ones, they refer the
most smallest illness to their hospital.

Salam.
These problems start the first day a person is called a medical student. Some of these students dont know that the most important thing is knowing who they are individually, helping people, providing advices and reassurance. They think it has to do with only treating illness. They are being thought to read so they could  pass thier exams not to study and know what they are actually doing. With all that, how do you expect them to do what is really expected of them to do as doctors? Most of them want to be doctors not because they want to help but simply because they want that title 'doctor' attached to thier names or because of the money they can put in there pockets.Being doctors, they think they have the power of life and death in thier hands and they deserve respect for that. They dont care about how you feel.If they do,they will treat you even if you pay nothing but you've got to pay if you want to see a doctor even if your life depends on that.
In other countries, check out the way doctors treat thier patients. You are more like friends. They seat you down and talk to you. When i say talk to you,i mean really talk to you. That way,you will open up and tell them more so they could help you. They take time to explain to you what ever you want to know. They send you letters in regrds to your previous appointments and encourage you to see them anytime you feel there is a problem. There is no way they are ever gonna treat you poorly otherwise, thier licence will be revoked.
Has anyone ever seen a case where a doctor's licence in Nigeria is revoked?I have not heard of any but i know of doctors that do not deserve to be doctors.Sai kuga har wani hura hanci suke yi kan su na kara girma.Allah ya tsare mu.

The  late Wada Nas used to say 'the greatest crime u can commit in this country is to get sick'.

I wonder why in Nigeria doctors are allowed to go on strike(which they almost everyday go) while workers of PHCN are not allowed (even though there's hardly any light).

In Nigeria we have a health system that is totally run by the compassionate God of mercy.
If not.......

Am feeling depressed, oppressed, sad, exhausted, defeated, suicidal, everything!
Why? Two things are happening to me.

First; our Muslim brothers and sisters that are being killed by Israel occupying, invading, merciless, juggernaut forces in Palestine. May Allah curse the zionists. And may He avenge Palestinians, ameen!

The second touching point is about my brother's son who is currently on admission at AKTH. The boy/child was brought there in 'full health', I mean physically (playing, jumping, chatting, etc, etc, etc), having a problem in his throat--an innate illness. They operated on him. The operation usually under normal circumstances heals in three days. Amma they rather carelessly 'cut' down one of his nerves that connects some stuff to his brain. Now the boy looks just like a 'lunatic', 'zombie', 'fully paralyzed', Kai I don't know how to damned say how he is!

He cannot feel, neither can he recognize anybody's face nor presence. Not even his parents! And the bloody Neorologist, they call him? Brain's doc says they pain won't recede in few coming days. Thus we should not expect anything, not even a miracle to heal our son! Utterly rubbish!

Some friends and well wishers of my bros keep on hinting him to sue the goddamned docs who operated on his child. But because of our constant misconception of the word Qaddara some others suggested that he should be fatalistic. Mst!

As one of DB's thread says; Doctors or Doctors! Allah ya isa. Allah ya bashi tare da duk musulmai marasa lafiya lafiya. Su kuma Palestine Allah ya taimakesu, amin.

Thanks
