Am so glad to come across this post. I have been wanting to learn and know the values beliefs & norms of Hausa culture and Islam. Basically I am half spanish half Nigerian (which makes me mixed race :-/) I have been dating a hausa guy for the past 4yrs now. I seriously want to learn about hausa norms but my finacee never tells me. He refuses to speak of hausa norms with regads to religion. I am so into books about hausa I visit websites infact I do send a little time in between my work hours to check out the chit chat, becasue even when they are funny I have indirectly learned alot about Islam.

I know what Addini means in hausa it means religion right for my fiancee teaches me some words in hausa. but I dont know what that Al'ada means. But I have read alot and this is so interesting. Is it also true that when babies of hausa people are born. something in their throat is cut out. because I was arguing with my fiancee that if we give birth no one will slah my babies throat

Haaa, FDY u no know say footbal is Haram :o :o??
Sha it's simply because u hardly find footbal players leaving the field when they hear the adhan(call for prayers!!) and any game wey gop stop u form praying is haram... kin gane?

Muhammad

salam
two things. first of all, all action not enshrined by the law of Allah have the potential of being haram. What makes them not haram depends on intention.
Anyone who perms or coils his/her hair for evil or sexual reasons, then, niyyar sa ta bata aikin da zaiyi koda activity din is physically OK.
Secondly, foot ball is not haram.
Mallam Kamilu ko ba hakabane?

Inbanda mahaukaciya wacece zatayi coiling or perming as you said for sexual reasons. So if a married woman want........she go go coil or perm hair...Abeg don Allah a dinga reasoning. ::)
In a way kenan kana cewa mata masu perming shoudlnt ko?

Don Allah jama'a meyasa namiji zai aikata sunnan manzo Allah ya auri mata ta hanyar da ubangiji ya wajabta ammans ai kuga yanmata sun fake fake sunce wai bazasu baci mata sai ya biya kudin sadaki Imagine? Dama ni ranar aure na yana magana na amsa. Ina son dan abuna ammam yanmatanna suka dage suka hanani magana nace baniyawa. So siyan baki is that Alada or religion?
What you see is what you get[/b]

..kameel.. if football is haram.. then computer games are haram.. then internet is haram... then almost everything u do in life is haram...
like uncle amin said.. its up to ur intentions!... u make an intention.. u carry it out.. etc etc... thats it. football and other sports are NOT HARAM!...

..if a girl perms her hair.. then covers it.. its ok... as long as she doesnt try to get attention. but most women perm for easy management of the hair... cuz some of the sisters got that nappy hair... others do it as kwalya.. so i wouldnt say perming is haram...

hafsy.. abeg... explain the difference b/w hot comb and perming?... i dont get why one is haram and the other halal...

lol...tuwo? hahaha.. sai dai kai!... its actually for medical and health reasons... when u get a cold or sumthin... the thingie (bellie?) gets infected and it hurts... so hausa people and other people around the world, cut it off from birth...
but i kinda disagree with such practice.. because the thingie (bellie?  ::)) is like a shield (or filter).... so.. it gets infected FIRST and the infection stays there... if not, then the infection will carry on and go into the body...
u grab? there has to be a reason why God placed it there...
my dad didnt have his removed.. my mom got hers removed.. but meeh and my sibs still have ours...
some hausa people also believe that it will grow long and choke the person... and thats juss...outrageous..lol

QuoteKAMEEL permin is not haram, but using hot combs & wigs/extensions iz haram.

I will like to give some input to this. I think it's kind of logic to that hot combs and wigs are totally different and they are used for different purpose. Because i don't want to make a comment that I don't even know where it came from so I have spoke with imam... and he quote this hadith

Praise be to Allaah.

There is nothing wrong with changing the hair colour and dyeing it any colour, except black. There is also nothing wrong with using something to make curly hair straight. This ruling applies to young and old alike, so long as no damage results from doing this and the material used is pure (taahir) and something that is allowed in Islam. However, dyeing the hair pure black is not allowed for men or women, because the Prophet  (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ?Change this grey hair, but avoid black.? (Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa?imah, 5/168 )

Peace to you all,
I'm out

Amin, U are very right, intention is of uttermost importance!!
u can imagine sum babes trying hard 2 cover the newly permmed hair thus ba ma a zancen hijab......
Fyne dyme, I didn't say Football is haram, Iam trying to figure out situations where games or other activities become questionable simply because a person is unable to perform his prayers (on tyme) while consumed in it.
Thanks for that Hadith Gimbiya, thus no BLACK WIG should be used for any attachment.
FDQ, thanks for that explanation about ''throat thingy'', AAAH, u don't believe it grows? Kin ta jin labarin wani abu wai shi 'makoko'? lol
